The UCLA football forum is an excellent place to discuss your favorite team. You can find tons of information about your favorite players, coaches, and more. Many people are passionate about the Bruins and have devoted years to learning about the team. These fans can offer you great insights into the upcoming season.
Bob Toledo
If you’ve been a follower of UCLA football, you’ve probably heard about Bob Toledo. Toledo coached the Bruins from 1996 to 2002 and finished with a 49-32 record. His teams went on to win three conference titles and three bowl games. His best season may have been the 1997 season, which saw UCLA go 10-2. Toledo was 3-4 against the USC Trojans, however.
After playing at Lincoln High School in San Jose, Calif., Toledo played for San Jose State during the 1964 season and transferred to San Jose City College the following Year. He became a junior college All-American while at San Jose State and started for the San Francisco State Gators in 1966 and 1967. He also played in the 1967 Camellia Bowl, losing to Don Coryell’s San Diego State Aztecs. Toledo became UCLA’s offensive coordinator and later became the head coach.
Dick Vermeil
Several years ago, a UCLA football forum posted a message in tribute to Dick Vermeil. The veteran coach had just announced that he was stepping down due to burnout. Since then, he has become a famous figure in Philadelphia sports. His face can be seen on billboards, and he has made numerous comments about his love for the city.
Before coaching at UCLA, Vermeil coached for the Philadelphia Eagles and in the NFL for 15 years. While in Philadelphia, he coached the team to four straight playoff appearances and even led them to the Super Bowl in 1980. He left coaching in 1982 to pursue a career in broadcasting but returned in the Super Bowl three years later with the St. Louis Rams. In his 15 years in the NFL, he compiled a record of 126-114.
Karl Dorrell
If you’re a UCLA football fan, you’ve probably heard of Karl Dorrell. Dan Guerrero fired the former Bruins head coach after a disastrous 0-5 start to the 2022 season. After losing four consecutive games by 25 points, Dorrell was named the worst college football start in the last 65 years.
The Bruin football program finished 6-7 under Dorrell’s leadership. In 2003, his Bruins went to the Silicon Valley Bowl, losing to Fresno State. They went to the Las Vegas Bowl the following season, losing to Wyoming. In 2005, they went 10-2, and Dorrell was named the Pac-10 co-Coach of the Year.

Dorrell is a native of Alameda, California. His father was an aircraft carrier chief. He also spent time coaching wide receivers for the New York Jets. He helped develop two players who went on to play pro football. Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall reached career highs of over 1,000 yards receiving under Dorrell.
Brian Prothro
Whether you love UCLA football or hate it, there’s a forum for you. UCLA is one of the most successful schools in college football. The school’s athletic tradition is perhaps as distinguished as its academics. Whether you’re into country music, boy scouts, or five-loss seasons, you can be sure that UCLA will have a fan base.
It has a strong tradition of producing first-round draft picks in the NFL and numerous consensus all-Americans. They’ve also produced multiple Heisman Trophy winners and numerous significant award-winners. And, most recently, the Bruins hired Chip Kelly as head coach.
Spaulding Field
The turf at UCLA’s Spaulding Field requires a complete makeover. Earlier this week, UCLA announced it would spend $800,000 to replace the field with new AstroTurf Game Day 3D Extreme turf. This will improve the playing surfaces by eliminating depressions and uneven areas.
The UCLA football team is in training for the upcoming season. Three spring training sessions will be held at the university, and the public is welcome to attend. Parking is available in Parking Structure 8 for $14 per day. During the training sessions, photography is prohibited. Each training session will last about two hours.
Wasserman Football Center
The new Wasserman Football Center at UCLA is a state-of-the-art facility that will provide UCLA Football students with the best training facilities in the nation. With the new facility, student-athletes can maximize their potential and become the best players they can be. Chancellor Block and Dan Guerrero, who head UCLA Athletics, were guests at the ribbon-cutting ceremony last night.
The facility will include the following:
- A locker room.
- Strength and conditioning area.
- Athletic training area.
- Coaches offices.
- Team meeting rooms.
- A video room.
Designed to be energy-efficient, the Wasserman Football Center also respects the environment. The building will use on-site solar thermal systems and the campus’ central energy plant.

Pac-12 Conference South Division champions
UCLA is defending Pac-12 South Division champion and should head into the Pac-12 title game with a high profile. The Bruins beat up the Utes and led 42-25 late in the game. The victory was a re-set for the Pac-12 title race. UCLA will play Oregon and USC later this season. If the Bruins can split the two games, they should finish 8-1 and make the Pac-12 title game.
In the past, the Pac-12 Conference championship game has featured the North and South Division champions. However, the conference has expanded its schedule to include Utah and Colorado. Adding Utah and Colorado would have changed the matchups for Washington and UCLA. If they had won the South Division title, they would have played either Washington State or Utah in the championship game.
Losing to USC could ruin a repeat as Pac-12 champions.
USC’s recent loss to Washington has thrown a spanner in the works for the Pac-12 race, but the Pac-12 still has a solid group of contenders. UCLA also picked up a big win this weekend, and even though USC has been inconsistent, this game should have huge implications.
The Trojans will likely have to be without one of their best players on offense and defense. While they have a strong starting quarterback in Will Grier, they have not been as deep on defense. Their offense has relied on many different players. USC has a deep offensive line and is backed by players such as Travis Dye, Xazavian Valladay, and Kamuela.

The Utes could end up playing USC in the Pac-12 title game if they win the title game. The Utes are favored to repeat as Pac-12 champions but still need to win to earn that title. A loss to the Trojans could end the Utes’ hopes of making the College Football Playoff. In addition, quarterback Anthony Brown must bounce back from his poor performance against Utah. He threw for 231 yards, but it’s unlikely he will be able to throw for that much again. If the Ducks win, forcing Oregon State to pass could help Oregon’s chances of making it to the Pac-12 title game.
Bruin football’s tie-breaking method
When two teams finish tied in a conference, the tie-breaking method of UCLA football differs from the other teams’ tie-breaking method. Instead of using the cumulative win percentage against the two groups, this method looks at the record against the next highest common opponent. This method is used when two teams have the same win percentage, but more than two teams are tied in the conference.
Tie-breakers are used in the playoffs when two teams in the same division have identical win-lost-tied percentages. The team determines the winner of the division with the higher win-loss-tied rate.
